B'nai Mitzvah training at Congregation B'nai Israel

Training a student to become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is one of Rabbi Kessler's favorite parts of being a rabbi. He relishes the one-on-one time spent in building relationships with as well as building the knowledge of our students.
When your child(ren) are approaching the age of 12, Rabbi Kessler invites you to set up a meeting with him to propose B’nai Mitzvah dates, set a training schedule, and discuss fees. He will also ask the student what he/she desires from the experience, as it should be a personal journey, in addition to a communal one.
The precise length of one’s training varies, depending upon the student’s previous knowledge. Typically, B’nai Mitzvah tutoring takes 6 months and covers: prayers, reading from the Torah, writing a d’var Torah (sermon), to be delivered at the Bar/Bat Mitzvah service.
